Will Kennedy was a Boulder, Montana, newspaperman. Papers include copies of letters (1862-1897) to his sister Anna concerning his experiences in the Civil War; his work as a reporter and printer in the Midwest; his wide travels; and his newspaper and political activities in Montana. Also included are financial records (1887-1889) concerning Edward Rohkramer, and Will Kennedy's marriage certificate (1887). (SC 1659) Papers include very frequent and detailed outgoing letters (1862-1896) to his sister Anna concerning his experiences in the Civil War; his work as a reporter and printer in the Midwest; his wide travels; and his newspaper and political activities in Montana. There are also a few letters to his brother John C. Kennedy, and two letters (January 1897) to his wife Frances. Also included is a copy of Will Kennedy and Frances Honore's marriage certificate (1887). There are also minor financial records (1887-1889) of Edward Rohkramer of Missoula.

Will Kennedy was born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland on October 29, 1845, the son of David H. Kennedy. When Will was a young boy, the family moved to a farm in southern Indiana. Shortly before his 16th birthday, Will joined the 52nd Indiana Infantry Regiment as a drummer boy. He spent most of his service at Fort Pillow in Tennessee.
